The Liberty Seated dollar has the distinction of being the first coin ever struck at the Carson City Mint. Superintendent Abe Curry and his staff proudly displayed several of these new silver dollars during the first week of February in 1870. From then until today, Carson City coins have captivated collectors.

Another distinction of “CC” Liberty Seated silver dollars is that because of their low survival populations, the number of 10-piece “CC” coin type sets available to collectors is limited to 1,200 or fewer.

The 1870-CC is by far the most available date in the series, although it is estimated that less than 850 examples exist. The 1871-CC is notable because it has the lowest output of any coin ever struck at the Carson Mint. Of the 1,376 pieces originally coined, only 120 or fewer exist today.

The 1873-CC, with its diminutive mintage total of 2,300 is a key rarity, and is virtually tied with the 1871-CC in terms of extant survivors. 1872-CC silver dollars, though not as scarce as the two previously mentioned dates, are considered to be elusive by collectors, especially in higher condition ratings.
