A big thank-you to those C4OA members who were able to journey out to Carson City last week (August 23, 2013) to attend the Carson City Coin Collectors of America Regional Meeting. The C4OA greatly appreciates any responses to the regional meeting events, as well as to Rusty Goe’s “10 Non-Coin Collectables Ever ‘CC’ Coin Enthusiast Should Own” lecture at the Nevada State Museum Educational Fair (held before the regional meeting took place).

If you were unable to attend the regional meeting this past Friday, you surely missed out. Club meetings are what C4OAers look forward to most, besides their beloved Curry’s Chronicle issues arriving in the mail.

The meeting opened with Rusty Goe’s lecture “Rehashing Information about the Carson Mint and its Coins – Boring or Beneficial?,” which captivated all attendees. Following the lecture was the always-anticipated show-and-tell portion of the meeting, where members were able to tell tales about coins, ephemera, and exonumia they have acquired. Some members even throw in the occasional “one that got away” story, which everyone seems to relate to.

Tony Arnold delighted those present once again, when he surprised attendees by handing out personalized golf towels to commemorate the gathering. Last year, Tony had medals made featuring the C4OA logo and meeting date. Many members brought these souvenir medals with them on their return trip to the meeting.

After the regional meeting concluded, there was a brief intermission while the Nugget prepared another banquet room for the C4OA dinner. Members convened and talked numismatics (and Carson City coins) during this free time, but were happy to be seated in their make-shift dining room when the time came. Each member enjoyed their choice of either prime rib or salmon, freshly prepared by the Carson Nugget.

If you have been debating on whether or not to attend a C4OA regional meeting, please do so. Each time the fellowship gathers, friendships are rekindled or made, and connections occur when people meet other, like-minded people that share the Carson City passion.

Although Rusty already presented Bruce Thayer with his “Thank You, Volunteer” card at the meeting, I would like to again say thank you to him for coordinating such a splendid gathering. He, along with other volunteers, really make these meetings enjoyable for all.
