After literally months of planning schedules, coordinating volunteers, and publicizing the event, we are proud to announce that the 2009 Annual C4OA Meeting and Carson City Coin Symposium lived up to, and exceeded all expectations.

With a hearty attendance of nearly 50 current and possibly a few new C4OA members, the Carson City Coin Collectors of America launched into its general meeting at the ANA’s World’s Fair of Money Convention in Los Angeles, CA, on August 6, 2009. Meeting topics included the debut of the new C4OA Web site, the pending publication of the 17th edition of our award-winning quarterly journal, Curry’s Chronicle, and the announcement of the C4OA’s new treasurer, Don Haight.

In an effort to allow as much time as possible for the Carson City Coin Symposium, official club matters were kept brief. Before the audience knew it, they were witnessing one of the most remarkable, information-packed sessions found at the 2009 ANA convention.

C4OA president Rusty Goe introduced the first of four speakers, Bill Bugert. Mr. Bugert began an informative PowerPoint presentation focusing on die marriages of 1875-CC Liberty Seated half dollars. Attendees were so captivated that many were seen jotting down notes through Mr. Bugert's whole lecture.

Following Mr. Bugert, Darrell Low took the podium for his presentation, “An Introduction to Liberty Seated Coinage at the Carson City Mint.” Mr. Low provided excellent information on all six Liberty Seated denominations from the “CC” Mint. After Mr. Low finished, many people were astonished at how much they learned about “CC” Liberty Seated coinage and the mint's history in such a short period of time.

Third at the helm was Liberty Seated Collectors Club president John McCloskey, with his presentation on Carson Mint half eagles. Mr. McCloskey drew on his exstensive half eagle expertise, as he disclosed informative facts about half eagle hub characteristics, along with easy-to-follow population tables.

The final speaker of the day was Rusty Goe who gave a heart-warming, biographical presentation about Harold M. Budd, Sr., a Carson City Mint-enthusiast whose name has been overlooked in numismatic history books. Even though the symposium went right up to the wire regarding time constraints, everyone in attendance stayed to hear the end of this captivating piece of history.

When members finally began to file out of the lecture hall, all of them left with more information than they had when they entered. Whether you were a technical-based coin collector, or you were in it for the history, the Carson City Coin Symposium offered something for you. If you would like to know more about this event, please look for the article entitled “Highlights of the Annual C4OA Meeting and Carson City Coin Symposium” in the fall 2009 issue of Curry’s Chronicle.

We sincerely appreciate all the symposium speakers and all the attendees at the C4OA's big event in L.A.

We're expecting a good turn-out for our regional meeting in Carson City, NV on Friday August 21 at 1:00 p.m at the Nevada State Museum. Hope to see you there!
